British Rappers
British rappers adopted their music styles after the hip hop music scene in New York became a mainstream musical genre in the United States. When British rappers began closely following their American counterparts, they mimicked both their music and dancing styles, and in many instances adopted American accents over their British ones. The significant difference between American rappers and British rappers is the manner in which each approaches the writing of their content.
American rappers and hip hop artist focus on a great deal of negatives in society, and provide a lot of negative imagery in their music. British rappers on the other hand, focus on more positive aspects of life, such as multiculturalism. Additionally, British rappers write their lyrics with a focus on the self as opposed to an outward focus of society and its ills. British rappers are looked at more as poets than hip hop artists, since their lyrics eliminate much of the negative ìhip hop speakî scattered throughout American rap music.
British rappers are well-respected throughout the world, even after adopting their style from an already-existing genre of music. Since British rappers took their music in a direction that was more positive, their work has been received by a wider audience than those who listen to only hip hop or rap music exclusively.
