British Dance
There are a few periods in history where British dance has made its mark on the world. First, beginning in the 1920ís with the British dance halls where swing dancing had been spreading to during the ìbig bandî music scene. British dance and musical culture would be forever changed with the advent of swing dancing, with dance halls opening up all over the country rapidly during the 1920ís and 1930ís. As the British dance halls increased in popularity, British ìbig bandsî became popular, having been influenced by American jazz musician.
Next, British dance was influenced with the popularity of disco halls and the American musicians writing popular disco tunes. As these dance halls played disco music, it would create an influence on British dance that would reemerge during the 1990ís when British pop music would take center stage all over the world.
In 1994, the British dance and pop group The Spice Girls were formed, changing the British music scene forever. These women formed a group that eventually would become as popular in their native country as The Beatles. By putting on a dance show while singing, The Spice Girls set a trend later followed by other pop stars around the world. The British dance scene has not been the same since The Spice Girls became hits, with other pop artists having been influenced by their dancing performances and seeking to recreate the showmanship they exhibited in their shows.
